Create Reaction Map Tool

How to create a reaction map which defines the reactions of two or more input materials that create an output material.

The Create Reaction Map tool allows the user to create a reaction map. The user selects two or more input materials and selects the resulting output material.

  • (required) The materials must exist in a materials library (Materials > DNA Materials, Microbial Materials, Cell Cultures, Protein Materials, or Reagents)

  • If the materials do not exist yet, use the header to go to Materials > DNA Materials, Microbial Materials, Cell Cultures, Protein Materials, Reagents > ‘New’ or ‘Upload’

You can find the Create Reaction Map tool under Tools > Tool Library. To launch the tool, click ‘Launch Tool’.

The tool will walk you through several steps to generate a reaction map. You need to complete each step before proceeding to the next. After completing a step, the completed step mark (circle) will turn green with a checkmark. You can always use the ‘previous’ button to go back to any previous step. 

1. Define Reaction Map: Give a name to the reaction map and select either ‘Assembly Reaction’, 'Transformation’, 'Conjugation', ‘PCR Reaction’, ‘Plasmid Purification’, or ‘Protein Purification’ as the reaction map type. 

Click on ‘Add Reaction’ to add a reaction to the reaction map. Name the reaction. 

Click on the "Input Materials" drop-down menu to select input materials from the inventory. The types of input materials to be selected depend on the reaction map type. For example, if you define a microbial (clonal) transformation reaction, your input materials should be a DNA material and a microbial material. If you define an assembly reaction, your input materials would be DNA materials. 

Click on the "output" drop-down menu to select an output material from the inventory. Please note that both input and output materials must be created before using this tool. 

Click on ‘Add Reaction’ to add another reaction if needed. Once you are done adding reaction to the reaction map, click ‘Next’. 

2. Review Reaction Map: At this step, you can review the reaction map that you have just created. If everything looks good, click ‘Register Reaction Map’. Otherwise, use the ‘previous’ button to go back to the previous step to make changes.  

Once the reaction map has been registered, you can click on the link ‘Created 1 Reaction Map’ to view the outputted reaction map. Alternatively, you can go to Data > Reaction Maps and select the reaction map that you want to view.
